Supporting Children

Desert Pathways is an integrated public school and mental health program that provides high school aged children with emotional difficulties an education in a structured therapeutic classroom environment. The ultimate goal is to enable children to successfully return to mainstream educational settings. Desert Pathways is collaboration between the Center and the Antelope Valley Union High School District. Desert Pathways is the Antelope Valley’s only fully integrated public school and mental health program. Desert Pathways is an alternative for students whose needs cannot be met either in mainstream education or special education classes on local high school campuses. In addition to mental health staff, each classroom has a maximum of eight students and is staffed with a special education teacher and two instructional assistants, which allows for maximum individualized instruction. Therapeutic services include individual, group and family therapy, as well as on-site psychiatric services.
